Janet Carol Zimmerman Bowlin, age 80, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on Friday, February 9, 2018. Her family was at her bedside and her death was both comfortable and peaceful.
Janet was born May 18, 1937 in California, Missouri to Malcolm and Opal (Voigt) Zimmerman. She graduated from California High School in May 1955. On May 29, 1955 she married her high school sweetheart, John R. Bowlin. Over the years, she worked at K.A Dutcher Paint and Carpet and also the Hometown Pharmacy. In 1987, the Bowlins moved to the Kansas City area to reside near their children and grandchildren. After John died in 2010, Janet remained in Kansas City until moving to Springfield, Missouri in 2016.
Janet loved to bake and would share her baked goods with friends and neighbors (not that she wouldn't enjoy the fruits of her labor – she loved her sweets). She enjoyed embroidery and made several quilts for her grandchildren. However, it was being with family that she enjoyed the most. Holidays with her kids and grandkids were very good days. She also loved a day at the casino with John, and later, with her brother, sister, and sister-in-law.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, John, as well as, her brother, James Zimmerman, and an infant sister, Marilyn. She is survived by her son, Steven K. Bowlin and his wife, Cindy, of Springfield, Missouri, and a daughter, Brenda K. (Bowlin) Cagle and her husband, Clayton, of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren include Michelle (Bowlin) Cronk and her husband, Doug, of Kansas City; Greg Bowlin of San Diego, California; Kurtis Cagle of Houston; Bradley Cagle and his wife, Jill, of Houston; Great-grandchildren include Zackary and Ian Cronk of Kansas City and Colton Cagle of Houston.
Janet also leaves a sister, Judy (Zimmerman) Bochard and her husband, Nelson, of California, Missouri, as well as, her brother Robert Zimmerman and his wife, Carmen, of Independence, Missouri.
Services will be held at the Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home in California, Missouri on Wednesday, February 14. Visitation will be from noon until 1:00 p.m. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Reverend Ronald Baker. A graveside service will be held at the California City Cemetery.
