Thomas died at The Northern Hospital, Great Howard Street Liverpool and was buried at Ford on 19th July 1945.
He was the son of Private Thomas Burke of "B" Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Regiment of Foot who was one of the defenders of Rorke's Drift during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. (The action was the subject of the film 'Zulu') .
