Honolulu Mayor. He served as Mayor of Honolulu, Hawaii from 1954 to 1968. Prior to becoming mayor, he was a school teacher, a member of the Hawaii territorial House of Representatives from 1944-1946 as well a member of the Hawaii territorial senate from 1946-1950. After his death in 1975, his successor renamed the Honolulu Convention Center/Honolulu International Center in his honor, calling it the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. The convention center was the site where in January 1973, history was made when Elvis Presley performed there to a live world-wide audience. He suffered a fatal stroke the day before his 73rd birthday.
