US Congressman. He was born in Middletown, Connecticut, to John Wilcox and Eunice Norton Wilcox. He was educated locally and later studied law with Benjamin A. Gilbert. He was admitted to the bar in 1802 and commenced practicing law in Orford, New Hampshire shortly thereafter. In May 1793, he married Sarah Fiske in Braintree, Massachusetts, and the couple had two children together, Leonard Wilcox was born in 1799, and Elisabeth Wilcox was born in 1806). In 1807, he married for the second time to Elizabeth Todd in Orford, New Hampshire, and the couple had six daughters together. He then decided to run for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected to the newly established seat six. A member of the Federalist Party, he then entered politics and served New Hampshire's 13th and 14th Districts (Thirteenth Congress and Fourteenth Congress) as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives from 1813 to 1817. After his term in the United States Congress expired on March 3, 1817, he was succeeded in office by United States Representative John Fabyan Parrott. He also served as a Member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives from 1809 to 1811. After retiring from politics, he resumed his law practice until his death. He passed away on July 8, 1838, at the age of 69, in Orford, New Hampshire, and was buried in the West Cemetery in that city. His second wife Elisabeth passed away on March 2, 1827, at the age of 42, and she is buried beside her husband. His son Leonard Wilcox also served in the United States Congress as a United States Representative from the State of New Hampshire from 1838 to 1840.
