Detroit Businessman. Donald MacDonald Dickinson Thurber was the owner of the "Down Town Garage" an establishment located in the City of Detroit. His ancestors arrived in the new world in the 17th century and arrived in Michigan in 1825. Donald was born in Detroit, July 19, 1884. He was educated in Public and private schools in Detroit and graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York in 1907 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was engaged in the lumber business in Albuquerque, New Mexico for two years and later was involved in cattle ranching near Las Vegas. When he returned to his hometown Detroit he started in the automobile business as a general agent for the Anderson Electric Automobile of Detroit handing the car at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. When he returned again to Detroit he opened what was the most widely known parking garage of the city known as the Down Town Garage located on West Congress Street. In 1911 he married Miss Fayetta Crowley a native of Detroit. He passed away February 14, 1927. His wife Fayetta was a widow for 60 years.
