Valentine was the son of John (b. 11/14/1800 - d. 8/29/1879) and Sarah Nicodemus of Maryland. John's father was Valentine Nicodemus, (b. 11/21/1763 - d.11/2/1835) and John's wife was Anna M. Nicodemus (b. 12/1/1769 - d. 2/28/1826). Valentine, John, and Anna are all buried in Boonsboro Co, Maryland.
Valentine married Mary Jane Elleman in Maryland and she passed away before 1863. He then married Fanny Ellen Martin Riggle on May 12, 1863 in Ohio and they settled in Logan County, IL, where they raised their family. Valentine had (at least) 2 children from his marriage to Mary Jane that died in infancy or quite young.
Together they had three more daughters - Clara, Emma, and Neoma, who all married and had families of their own. The 1870 census also lists 6 mo. old twins Harry and Anna but they are not on any further censuses so it is presumed they died young. It also lists 18 year old Laura, who may be Valentine's daughter from his marriage to Mary Jane.
Valentine died in 1893.
