Christopher "Chris" Abene, 54, of Rockford, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, in his home. Born April 28, 1963, in Rockford, the son of Anthony and Carole (Petroski) Abene. He attended West High School. Chris was a United States Army veteran. He had a degree in Horticulture. Chris worked at Southern Imperial for the last 5 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading, music, cooking and golfing. Chris was meticulous and organized and it was evident in many facets of his life, especially in his interior design and painting business he owned for many years with his best friend, Doug Frye.
Survived by his children, Antonia Abene, Christopher Michael (Christina) Jimenez, Joseph Abene and Vito Abene; mother of his children, Victoria (Hank) Melton; grandchildren, Evangelina, Sicilia, Emiliana, Gianni, Giuliano, and Gia; father, Anthony; sister, Constance; and his beloved dog, Shadow. Predeceased by his mother, Carole; and his nana, Carrie
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Olson Funeral North Main Chapel, 2811 N. Main St., Rockford, with Pastor Dan Herman of Old Stone Church of Rockton.
