Francis Leonard Barnard, 86, former resident of Towanda, IL died at Graham Hospital, in Canton. He was born Jan. 17, 1894 in Towanda, IL, a son of John Melmon and Susan Mathias Barnard. He married Zuma Crouch on Nov. 6, 1917. She died Nov. 3, 1958.
Surviving are a son, L. D. Barnard, a daughter, Florence Ethel Bess, a sister, Ethel Eaton, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. His son John Byron preceded him in death in May 1976.
He was a member of Lexington United Methodist Church, Towanda Masons and Bloomington Consistory and was past president of the Mclean County Farm Bureau.
He owned an operated his family farm purchased in 1828 by Melmon N. Barnard, his great grandfather.
After retiring from farming, he moved to Rockport, TX.
