EAST BARRE, Vt. - Ruth McGinley, 90, formerly of Old Town, died Jan. 25, 2007, at the Woodridge Nursing Home, Berlin, Vt. Ruth was born March 26, 1916, in Cape Porpoise, the eldest child of George and Edna (Benson) Seavey. She graduated as salutatorian from Kennebunkport High School in 1934 and received a bachelors degree in home economics from the University of Maine in 1938. On Jan. 28, 1939, she married Raymond McGinley, whom she had met at the university. She was a home economics teacher at Potter Academy, Bridgton, then worked at Jordan Marsh, Boston. After raising her children, she worked in the Old Town library and later served as food service director for the Old Town school system. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother, and also cared for her husbands parents, who lived with the family for about 20 years. A major portion of each day was spent in her kitchen. She was noted for her oatmeal bread, chocolate desserts, special birthday cakes, and the fine arts of sewing her childrens clothing and knitting afghans for her grandchildren. She especially looked forward to family reunions and the family newsletter. In her teen years, she was pianist for the evening services at the Cape Porpoise Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church, a lifetime member of OES No. 190 Arundel Chapter, Kennebunkport, and volunteered at the Vermont Quilt Festival for several years. Survivors include six children and families, Paul and Nancy McGinley of East Barre, Vt., Helen and John Ballard of Cabot, Vt., Rosemary and David Adams of Overland Park, Kan., Kevin McGinley and Pamela Brady of Moretown, Vt., Kathleen and Daniel Schaap of Hermon, and Richard McGinley and Anne Dinse of Granby, Conn. She had nine grandchildren, Michael McGinley, Jessica Sulzen, Julie Campanini, Shelagh McGinley, Kelly and Krista Schaap, Christopher Henderson, Jennifer Hallett and Kara McGinley; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Pauline Staples of Kennebunk, and Janet Seavey of Barre, Vt.; and a brother, Harrison Seavey of Kennebunk. She was predeceased by infant twin daughters; and two brothers, Fred and John Seavey. Her husband, Raymond McGinley, passed away Jan. 18, 2007. In accordance with Ruths wishes, her body was donated to the University of Vermont Medical School for research purposes. A service of remembrance for both Ruth and Raymond will take place noon Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 39 Washington St., Barre, Vt. Later interment will be made in the Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport. Friends of Raymond and Ruth may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, Vt.
