Joseph A. Hodes III, 78, of Louisville, died Wednesday at Jewish Hospital.

Joseph was a retired sales manager for Gordons Transportation, a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. He attended St. Xavier High School and the University of Louisville. He was the owner of K-9 Pet Supply Corporation and past owner of Town & Country Florist and Gift Shop. He was a former vice president of Farris Transportation, Export Division, a former division general manager of ABC Freight Forwarding, a former local sales manager of Consolidated Freightways Inc. and a former store manager of C.H. Kirchdorfer Appliance Stores. Joseph previously served as president and vice president of Mended Hearts, Kentuckiana Chapter, past president of the Louisville Transportation Club and former president of the old Kit Kat Katanga Dance Club. He was a former member of Wildwood Country Club, Woodhaven Country Club, Midland Trail Golf Club and the Old Louisville Breakfast Club. Joseph was former mayor of the city of Broadfields. He was a former director of the Trinity High School Booster Club, a volunteer worker for the Ursuline Sisters' Bargain Barn and a volunteer for the American Heart Association. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Men's Club, St. Joseph Orphan's Society, American Legion Highland Post #201 and the Bonnycastle Club.

He is survived by his wife, a son and daughter-in-law, a daughter and son-in-law, two sisters, a granddaughter, a grandson, 12 nieces, and 12 nephews.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at his church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Rd. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Marian Home, 3105 Lexington Rd., Louisville, KY 40207
