He served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1967 from Stewart Air Force Base in Newburg, N.Y.
A pilot during World War II, Mr. Asprey served in six major campaigns during the war, including 3 1/2 years with the Army of Occupation in Germany with his family and 3 1/2 years in the Pacific during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Asprey received the Distinguished Unit Citation and Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
Mr. Asprey's memberships included the Olivet Oriental Lodge 385, F and AM 3rd Degree in Philadelphia, the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the Retired Officer's Associations and the Order of Daedalians (National Fraternity of Military Pilots).
He was the son of the late William J. and Helen Palmer Asprey. His wife of 58 years, Grace Benson Asprey, died in 1996.
Mr. Asprey is survived by three daughters, Bethann Albert of Stanhope, Susanne Ramsdell of Spokane, Wash. and Bonnie Jean Hughes of Laguna Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Marion Crew of Sumter, S.C. and Elizabeth Hinkle of
Harrisburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
