Harold Buckholdt was born on October 5, 1918 in Jacksonville IL, to Edwin and Caroline Buckholdt. He died on August 11, 2017 in Seattle WA.

In 1919 the Buckholdt family moved to Springfield, IL where Harold resided until moving to Chico, California in 1981. He graduated from Springfield High School and Springfield Junior College. In 1940 he graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in metallurgical engineering. While working for the Allis-Chalmers Construction Machinery plant in Springfield, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served from 1943 until 1946 as an aircraft maintenance officer. He retired from Fiat-Allis in 1980.

In 1943, he married Marian Louise Aschauer of Springfield IL. Marian passed away in 1972. In 1975 he married Gaye Harrold of Chico CA. After he and Gaye separated in 2013, he moved to Seattle WA.

He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Metals. His interests in retirement included family, computers, fitness (including running a marathon, senior softball and tennis) and many social groups. In his 90s, he developed an interest in watercolor painting, which he pursued until his last days.

He is survived by his children, Judith Black of Cambridge MA, Jon Mara of Palo Alto CA, Henry Buckholdt of Portland OR, Christine Delceg of Nelson NZ, Margaret Buckholdt of Seattle WA; Phillip Harrold, Dianna Harrold-Petterson, Stephen Harrold and James Harrold, all of Chico, CA; and many grand-children and great grand-children. Two brothers, Edwin of Seattle WA and Dr. Paul of Charleston SC predeceased him.

His remains will be buried in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.

He will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, patience, sense of humor, and his ability to always beat his relatives at cribbage.
