Mario Ennio Ablondi, 92 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Mario, known as "Gitch" by his family and friends, is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Marie Ablondi (Nicolosi), his daughter Cecile Goldsack (Ablondi), son-in-law James Goldsack, daughter-in-law Karen Ablondi (Maiorino); his grandchildren and their spouses, Jillian Nahoum (Ablondi), Robert Nahoum, Jenna Verdino (Ablondi) Robert Verdino, James Goldsack, Samantha Goldsack (Patterson), Priscilla Rossi (Goldsack) and Steven Rossi; his great grandchildren, Isabella and Juliette Nahoum, and Colin, Charlotte, and Rita Goldsack; and his sister Flora Workman (Ablondi) and niece Nancy Workman. He is predeceased by his son Bruce Ablondi.

Mario was born in Park Ridge, NJ on March 5, 1924 to Alfredo Ablondi and Ersilia Pometti Ablondi. He was raised and lived his entire life in Pearl River, NY where he was the longtime owner and proprietor of Ablondi's Bar and Grill. Mario dutifully served his country during the Second World War, enlisting as a Marine and serving valiantly in the Marshall Islands. He was awarded the Purple Heart on February 12, 1944 for wounds sustained at Roi Island, Kwajalein Atoll.

If anything can be said of Gitch, it is that he was a kind, humble, and generous man. He was loved dearly by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Margaret's R. C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Visiting is Thursday and Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
