Kenneth, Paul and Dick served in World War II. (Roger was frozen on a defense job). Paul was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and was a pilot flying Hellcats from a carrier, the USS Tripoli. In 1946 he married Marjoie June McMillan who preceeded him in death in McKinleyville, California. Their son, Ron, cared for them during their ailing years.
After the war Paul earned an MA and became a teacher, and later, a principal in the public schools in southern California. Late in their lives he and Marge moved to McKinleyville from Pasadena, California.
Paul's favorite sport was tennis. He became an excellent player and, for a time, coached the team at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. Paul also gave private lessons. One of his students was the wife of the actor, Ben Johnson. When tennis became too arduous for him (in his eighties), he turned to table tennis. Paul was particularly proud of winning a gold medal for the Men's 75-79 Doubles Tennis at the Senior Olympics.
Since the 80s Paul and Marge spent much time together with my wife, Sigrun, and me on RV trips in the West. We had trailers and enjoyed the outdoors.
(In spite of a mix-up by his parents, Paul often used his middle name, Douglas, which is not on his birth certificate.)
Larry Coffman, nephew.
