Anabel “Annie” Lee Biggert Smith passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2018, at Grace Living Center in El Reno.
Annie was born Feb. 25, 1934, to William A. Biggert and Lenora Harper Biggert of El Reno. She was a lifetime resident of El Reno, graduated from El Reno High School in 1952 and attended Redlands Community College. She was employed with the Rock Island Railroad and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
During Annie’s retirement years, she was an enthusiastic volunteer for her community who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Annie spent countless hours helping with local Habitat for Humanity projects, El Reno Chamber of Commerce, El Reno Main Street program, Burger Day, Mobile Meals, Canadian County Historical Museum and Fort Reno tourism. She had a deep love for historic Fort Reno and her re-enactment role with the Fort Reno Tombstone Tales, spending many years sharing the story of the fort in that role.
In 2008, Annie was presented with the award for “Volunteer of the Year” by the El Reno Chamber of Commerce for her efforts.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents.
Although Annie left no immediate relatives behind, she was adopted by many families who loved her dearly and looked to her as a grandmother and dear friend.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
