Jason Lee "Jay" Saunders, 24, of 1110 7th Street, Altavista, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Feb. 27, 1983, in Lynchburg, he was a loving and devoted son of Dale Saunders and Peggy Vaughan Saunders and Donnie Reynolds.
He was a member of the Altavista Church of Christ, a volunteer with the Altavista Fire Department and EMS and a Deputy with the Campbell County Sheriff's Department for 3 years. Jason was an avid car enthusiast, enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and his pride and joy, a 1990 5.0 Mustang.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Michael D. Saunders and his wife, Beth of Gretna; his maternal grandfather, Ollie Vaughan of Hurt; a niece, Brooke Saunders; a special friend, Cheryl Heller and her children, Samantha and Joseph of Altavista; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and his loving and devoted friends and coworkers.
A funeral service will be conducted at noon on Saturday, April 7, 2007, in the Altavista High School Gymnasium, with Lory Brafford and Dennis Nichols officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by the Campbell County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at Finch & Finch Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista, and other times at the residence.
