Baseball Player. He was a pitcher for the Baltimore Black Sox, where he played from 1926 to 1933. During his time with the Black Sox, he pitched six no-hitters, including one during the second game of a double-header after pitching game 1. In 1929, he won 17 games to help the Black Sox win the American Negro League pennant. In 1934, he was playing for the Negro League champion Philadelphia Stars. In 1939, he was credited with 25 wins with the Stars after already winning 15 with the semi-pro Bacharachs, giving him a total of 40 victories against all levels of competition for the season. After the Philadelphia Stars, he pitched for the Edgewater Giants, where in 1943 where he won 13 straight games. In 1944, he appeared with the Baltimore Elite Giants. The next season he formed his own ballclub, Yokeley's All-Stars, a barnstorming semi-pro team, which he operated until his retirement in 1959. At the peak of his popularity, he earned the nicknames "Corner Pocket" Yokely and "The Mysterious Shadow."
