Cim graduated from Wanatah High School in 1929. In 1933 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)and served in southern Indiana until 1936. He was a partner in a gas station at Westpoint, Westville, Indiana until he joined the Navy Seabees in 1942 as a Machinist Mate 1/C. He served in Hawaii, Midway Island and Tinian where he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. He was employed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department in 1946 and retired as Captain.
