Capt.Charles M. Weber (birth name: Karl David Weber) was the founder of the city of Stockton, California. Born in Germany on February 17, 1814, Weber would eventually emigrate in 1836 to New Orleans, Louisiana. He later married Helen Murphy, the daughter of Martin Murphy Sr. and Mary Foley, in 1850 and the couple went on to have three children of their own; Charles Martin Weber, Julia Helen Weber, & Thomas Jefferson Weber.
Capt. Weber died of pneumonia on May 4, 1881 and though born a Protestant, he was married to an Irish woman, who had his funeral services handled by a Catholic priest and his remains interred in the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery in Stockton, California. He now rests in an elaborate crypt built for he, his wife, Helen, and other family members.
