Cora Lucile (Wakely) Jelliff

Cora Lucile (Wakely) Jelliff, 94, a lifelong resident of Bentley Creek, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Robert Packer Hospital with her loving family at her side. Lucile was born March 23, 1923 at home in East Smithfield, PA daughter of the late Phelps & Laura (Riggs) Wakely.

She was a graduate of the East Smithfield High School, and on July 2, 1941, married the late Glen Lee Jelliff, who predeceased her on February 1, 2011.

Lucile and Glen celebrated 69 years together. She and Glen worked the family farm and she did the bookkeeping at Glen's Garage -- the family business. Lucile was also employed as a waitress at the Troy Diner, and as a secretary and auditor for Ridgebury Township for 18 years. She was a member of the Athens Wesleyan Church, Life Member of the Ridgebury Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary where she held many offices including president, secretary and treasurer.

Lucile was an extremely gifted piano player and played at church for many years and served as a sunday school teacher. Her greatest joy in life was her loving family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leland Glen & Roberta Jelliff of Bentley Creek; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Lee & Reverend Dan Orshaw of Brooksville, FL; Karen Eloise and Lynn Warner of Bentley Creek; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Soper of Wyalusing; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lucile was predeceased by her parents; loving husband, Glen Jelliff; daughter, Thelma Jean Baker; granddaughter Michelle Dunkerley; a brother, Harold Wakley; and a sister, Helen Storch.

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m., on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church, 13255 Berwick Turnpike, Gillett, PA 16925. Her funeral will follow, at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Larson and Pastor Rob Wuethrich officiating. Interment will be when weather permits, in Bentley Creek Cemetery.
