William Bartlett Greene, formerly of this city, died in Colorado Springs, Colo., January 25. He was a native of Massachusetts and came to Washington in 1877 to enter the United States signal service. In 1881 he became a clerk in the pension office, was promoted rapidly and was acting chief of the western division for about a year during the illness of his chief, the late Mr. Comstock. In 1887 he went to Scotland to fill an important and lucrative position, but his health failed and he has never recovered it. He gave promise of becoming prominent in his profession, the law, he having been graduated from the law department of Columbian University in 1882. His wife, who was native of Washington, and will be remembered as Miss Mollie Jones, will have the warm sympathy of their many friends in this city.
