VETERAN
Ron met Sue Fernstedt in Portland, Oregon, at a dance and on the second date, he proposed and she accepted with a whoop and a holler. After three years, they moved to Provo, Utah, so he could attend Brigham Young University. She was his true and only love and eternal companion. Ron started his military career shortly after high school by joining the United States Marine Corps. While serving in the Marines, he did a tour in Vietnam and returned with honor. Shortly after, he joined Utah National Guard Special Forces Unit, where he served as an A-team commander. He and his team were assigned missions overseas and continental United States. He served 20 years in Utah County Sherriff's Office, achieving the rank of lieutenant. After retiring from Utah County Sherriff's Office, he served as a police mentor in Iraq and Afghanistan. After serving overseas, he continued his work in serving and protecting people by becoming Western Regional Physical Security Manager for the Discover Company and received the Presidential Leadership Award. He had two children, Karen and Sam, but also became a father to many exchange students. Ronald Roy "Ron" Fernstedt, of Provo, Utah, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away March 10th, 2018.

Survived By: His wife of 50 years, Sue Fernstedt; two children: Karen and Sam; ten grandchildren with number eleven on the way, whom he dearly loves and has enjoyed.
