Beverly Joy Hutchison Eggers Higgins, the youngest daughter of Herman and Rose Hutchison, was born at home in rural Bagley, on December 27, 1927. Her father passed away when she was seven years old, and her mother passed four years later. Beverly then went to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Francis Sitterly. She attended school in Cooper, graduating in 1945. She also attended Iowa State Teachers College for a short time.

Beverly married Fred Eggers on November 8, 1945. They welcomed son Alan, in 1946 and daughter Jane, in 1951.

In 1955, Beverly began working outside the home, as a nurses’ aide at Greene County Hospital. She worked there for eight years. She then worked for 32 years at the Jefferson Clinic. In 1984, Fred passed away. Beverly married Tom Higgins in 1989. He passed away in 1991.

Beverly enjoyed flowers, and she spent hours tending her garden. She also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. Beverly had a special friendship with her sister-in-law, Elsie Hutchison, and the two went on many adventures together. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Jefferson, IA.

The most precious things in Beverly’s life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent countless hours babysitting and caring for them. When she wasn’t taking care of her grandchildren or attending their many activities, she enjoyed creating scrapbooks for each of them, that celebrated their achievements.

Beverly died peacefully at home on March 11, 2018, surrounded by her family.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Rose, her husbands, Fred and Tom, her son, Alan Eggers, two stepsons, her sisters, Mildred Sitterly and Madonna LeFleur, brothers, Don Hutchison, Wayne Hutchison and John Hutchison, and her son-in-law, James Godwin.
