Gilbert M. "Tip" Keller, 90, of West South Street, Carlisle, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Thornwald Home, Carlisle.

Born Dec. 25, 1913, in Lorain, Ohio, he was a son of the late T. Collins S. and S. Mae (Mumper) Keller and the widower of Harriet (Matter) Keller, whom he married Aug. 31, 1940.

Mr. Keller was a graduate of Carlisle High School where he was senior class president. He went to Dickinson College, Carlisle, from 1935 to 1937 and graduated magna cum laude from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma Engineering Honor Society and a member of Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society. In 1939, he was the winner of the National Tau Beta Pi Pledge Essay Contest.

He was retired from AMP, Harrisburg, where he worked as a staff specialist in the executive division for 22 years. He was a former employee of C.H. Masland & Sons and Carlisle Tire & Rubber, both of Carlisle, and General Electric Co. of Schenectady, N.Y. For two years, he was assistant professor of the department of mechanical engineering for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. He was treasurer of the Carlisle Area Joint School Authority from 1956 to 1958.

Mr. Keller was a member of Carlisle Kiwanis Club; one of the founding members of the Carlisle Valley Kiwanis Club, of which he later served as president; a member of Carlisle Borough Council from 1972 to 1980; a board member of the Bosler Free Library; and a member of Carlisle Borough Sewer System Authority from 1982 to 1992, where he later served as secretary.

He was the first chairman of the Carlisle Borough Pension Advisory Committee, serving from 1984 to 1994. He was treasurer of Cumberland County Historical Society and Hamilton Library for several years. He was a retired firefighter with the East Glenville Fire Department, District No. 3, Schenectady, N.Y.
He was also a member of Allison United Methodist Church, Carlisle, where he sang in the senior choir.

Mr. Keller is survived by a son, Alan G. Keller of Hampton, Va.; two daughters, Nancy K. Coxe of Gahanna, Ohio, and Cynthia K. Lyttle of Williamsville, N.Y.; and six granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, C. Willard Keller, Adam Keller and T. Collins S. Keller Jr.; and one sister, ElFrieda M. Hansell.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Allison United Methodist Church, Carlisle, with the Rev. Eric Funk, the Rev. Donald Ciampa and the Rev. Dr. Donald Treese officiating. Burial will be in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle.
