On the 1880 Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found wheelwright M A Davis, 42; wife Sally A, 42; daughters or sons: Sally E, 13; WM S, 11; Marthew E , 9; Jno F, 8; Charles, 5 and Mildred A, 2, all VA born.
On 26 Nov 1891, WIlliam Stephen Davis, 22, the son of M A and S A Davis, married Cornelia Ann Meuterefraugh (sic), 20, the daughter of Geo W and R H Meuterefaugh (sic), in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. Transcribed on Familysearch, available at their libraries.
W. S. Davis, a widower, was born "3" Apr "1858" in VA, the son of Mat Davis and Sallie Ackerly. He died on 27 Apr "1917," of pneumonia, aged 59 years, and 24 days. Jno Davis of Lexington reported. He was buried at Lexington. Rockbridge County, Virginia Death Registers 1853 - 1870, 1912 - 1917, p 336.
"Died DAVIS—Friday evening-, April 27, 1917, at his home in West Lexington, Va., after one week's illness of pneumonia, William S. Davis, aged 48 years. He was born and reared in this community, waa twice married, his second wife being before marriage Miss Nellie Entsminger, who survives with five children. Burial took place Sunday in Lexington cemetery following funeral services at the home conducted by Rev. James N. Montgomery." Published in the Rockbridge County News, Vol 33, #30, dated 3 May 1917.
