About two years ago Dr. Alexander removed from Mississippi and settled here. He at once took rank with our leading physicians and was shortly after his arrival elected city physician, which position he held at the time of his death. He was a very modest, unpretending, though thoroughly equipped Christian gentleman and the COMMERCIAL, with a host of friends, extends sincere condolence at his untimely end. He leaves three sons and a daughter. He will be interred this afternoon at Bellwood Cemetery, the Masonic fraternity having charge of the funeral ceremony.

Prominent Citizen of Pine Bluff
Arkansas Gazette Correspondence.
PINE BLUFF, ARK., Oct. 4,-Dr. H. L. Alexander, one of the most pious and Christian men of this city, and one who stood at the head of his profession-the practice of medicine-after suffering for several days with that dreaded disease, swamp fever, died last night. Dr. Alexander was loved by all who knew him. His funeral took place from his residence, on Fourth Avenue, this afternoon, Rev. J. A. Dickson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, of which the Doctor had long been a prominent member, officiating. A large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives followed the corpse to Bellwood Cemetery.
In the language of all who had the pleasure of knowing, “truly a good man has gone.”
