Jewel R. Carey, 97, of Sevierville, a former Memphian, died peacefully on March 07, 2013. A retired traffic manager for Allenberg Cotton Company, Mr. Carey was also a deacon at Bellevue Baptist Church.
He was one of Darby's Commandos for the U.S. Army, stormed the Omaha-Easy-Red-Beach on D-Day, and finally discharged as a Master Sargent.
The family will have a graveside service with military honors on Friday, March 15 beginning at 2 p.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery located at 6444 Raleigh-Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134. Beside his parents, Jewel was also preceded in death by his wife Margaret M. Carey; sister Ruby Jackson and brother Henry S. Carey, Jr.
He is survived by his only daughter Susan Tomlinson of Athens, TN; niece Ann Abbott of Etowah, TN, nephew Henry S. Carey, III of Jacksonville, FL; several other extended family members; and a host of personal and military friends.
