PFC William Everett Beck who was previously reported missing in action in the Philipinnes on July 30, 1942, died in action on April 20, 1942, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Beck, 1507 Gallatin, have been officially notified.

Private Beck was a member of the 34th pursuit group of the army air corps temporarily stationed at Nichols Field at Manila. He enlisted in the corps. Dec. 9, 1939 and was assigned to Fort George Wright near Seattle, Wash. He attended an electrical school at Chinook Field in Rantoul, Ill., where he graduated as a special aerial electrician. He reported to Hamilton Field in the fall of 1942 before going overseas on Nov. 1, 1942. Private Beck began his duties at Nichols Field just three weeks before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Private Beck was born September 10, 1915, in Manhattan, where he spent his youth. He graduated Manhattan high school in 1933, and attended Montana State college, where he majored in electrical engineering. In 1933 he moved with his parents to Hamilton, where they resided until coming to Helena in 1937. Before his enlistment, he was employed at the Home Creamery and the Northern Pacific railroad in Helena.
