Manitowoc - Richard J. Gospodarek, age 85, a Manitowoc resident, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.

Richard was born on March 3, 1933 in Manitowoc, son of the late Florian and Alvina (Zywicki) Gospodarek. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1950. On July 12, 1952 he married the former June Krueger at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage together. Richard began his employment with the Manitowoc Police Department in 1954 as a patrol officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in December of 1971 and then promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on November 1, 1981. He retired from the Manitowoc Police Department with the rank of Lieutenant on February 29, 1988. He also drove school bus and enjoyed painting and wallpapering in area homes. In later years, Richard enjoyed visiting area restaurants, playing bingo and riding throughout Manitowoc as he did as a police officer. He was a member of St. Mary Men's Club and the Manitowoc Pigeon Racing Club. Richard also enjoyed dartball, bowling, camping and looked forward to family visits at home by his children.

Survivors include his wife: June Gospodarek; his children: Donna (Kenton) Langman, Debra (Thomas) Meineke, Alan (Gina) Gospodarek, all of Manitowoc, Anthony (Deanna) Gospodarek, Holland, PA.; five grandchildren: Greg (Amanda) Langman, Manitowoc, Owen (Faith) Langman, Madison, Stephanie (Aaron) Schmitt, Green Bay, Jennifer (Jordan) Beckman, Seattle, WA., Matthew Gospodarek, Manitowoc; four great grandchildren: Karalynn and Alex Langman, Manitowoc, Declan and Dia Schmitt, Green Bay; and two sisters and one brother-in-law: Evelyn (Paul) Windus and Betty Guse. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Lynn and Lois Gospodarek; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Dolores and Erv Wichlacz, Robert Guse; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harland and Marie Krueger.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall (1114 South 21st Street) Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Doug LeCaptain with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall (1114 South 21st Street) Manitowoc, from 9:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 until 10:45 a.m.
