Norma Jean (Wilbur) Wright, 81, of 508 W. Locust St., passed away Monday, June 7, at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2659 Kennedy Road, where friends may call after noon.

Norma was born on Aug. 16, 1928, in Yorba Linda, Calif., to Benjamin and Dorothy Daisy (Thomas) Wilbur. She graduated from Stockton High School in Stockton, Calif.

She married John Wright Sr. on Nov. 19, 1949, in Reno, Nev.

Norma worked at the Adams Co., and then at Operation New View. She was a respected civic leader through her work with Machinist Union Local 1238, Dislocated Workers Program, Operation New View, the NAACP, the Nursing Home Care Review Board, as a Patient Advocate and in the SHARE program.

She was most well-known for more than 40 years of involvement with Dubuque's bowling community as a Junior bowling coach (Imperial Lanes, Riverside and Creslanes), league officer, member of the 600/700 Club, Secretary of the Junior Bowling Association and, for more than 25 years, was on the board of the Dubuque Women's Bowling Association. She was inducted into the Dubuque Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1998.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 61 years, John Wright Sr., of Dubuque; five children, Norma (Tom) Pellett and Grace Mendez, both of Dubuque, John Jr. (Kathie) Wright, of Hampton, Va., Charles (Doreen Joan) Wright, of Kenosha, Wis., and Samuel (fiancee, Cheri Weber) Wright, of Dubuque; a daughter-in-law, Suzie Wright, of Dubuque; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Jacquline Louise; two grandchildren; and all of her siblings.

Memorials may be given to Operation New View, 1473 Central Ave., Dubuque, IA 52001.
