A funeral service celebrating Rita’s life will be at 11AM, Monday March 26, 2018 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut, Danville with Father Bowan Schmitt officiating. A rosary will be at 10:30am Monday prior to the service at St. Paul’s. Internment will be alongside her husband at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum in Manitowoc, WI.
Rita was born at her family farm in Loretta, WI on June 11, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Dwyer) Fargen. Rita was married to Merton R. Prouty of Spring Green, WI on January 31, 1942, and shared over 38 years together.
Her husband Mert served in the Army during WWII; consequently, Rita began her married life traveling to new areas of the country. Prior to that, a rare 60 mile trip into Madison was the extent of her travels. After the war, Rita and Mert returned to Wisconsin, living in Spring Green and Chilton. They moved to Mountain Home, AK in 1975. After the death of her husband, Rita moved to Danville. She worked at Woodbury’s with her Daughter Linda for 20 years. She was a dedicated volunteer for CRIS and USMC for many years. Even into her 90’s, Rita could be seen walking to volunteer at the hospital and CRIS from her home. She was a faithful member of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church for 31 years. A devout Catholic often leading parishioners in the Rosary, and dispensing Holy Communion at the hospital. More than anything on this earth, Rita loved her family; they were her life.
Rita is survived by her four children: Rita Jean (Jan) Jackson, Linda (Michael) Federman, Timm (Jane) Prouty, and Danny (Jennifer) Prouty; grandchildren: Dan (Debbie) Jackson, Robert (Michelle) Jackson, Mattew (Amanda) Jackson, Todd (Heather) Federman, Mark Federman, Lacey Prouty, Tyler (Kelsey) Prouty, and Mathias Prouty; Great-Grandchildren: Nate, Brayden, Zeke, and Zander Jackson, Kelli (Luis), Brian and Gina Federman, Alexa, Kortni, Brenson and Finn Prouty; Great-Great Grandchildren: Lylith Lorenzo; numerous Nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws Richard (Marlene) and Robert (Joyce) Prouty, and sister-in-law Mary Margaret Fargen.
