Margaret was the second of six children born to Mary C. Drinnen (1835-AFT1870) and John H. Pauley (also spelled Pawley and Polley).

She married William H. Price in Edgar County, Illinois, on May 13, 1869. They had twelve children: Mary E., Amanda H., George Ira, John M., Charles H., Nancy C., Daniel A., Jabez T., James O., Rosa Belle, William and Ruth Ann.
