Edith was born on April 21, 1934 in Oss, Netherlands. She lived with her family until September 1942, when they decided to preserve their safety by hiding separately. Edith stayed with the Reverend Gunther at his church until the day after her ninth birthday, when she was betrayed by a policeman and arrested. She was taken to Westerbork, where she stayed at Barrack 35. During this time, she contracted scarlet fever and had to be quarantined. Despite this, she was nevertheless deported to Auschwitz on November 16, 1943, and upon her arrival three days later, was immediately sent to the gas chambers and killed. Her parents and brother all survived the war.
