Nancy was born May 28, 1924 in Kaukauna, a daughter of the late Anton and Anna Marie (Zommer) VanderHyden. On October 20, 1945, she married Francis J. Steffens at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1966. Nancy then married Lloyd Shimek on December 21, 1968 at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He also preceded her in death on October 7, 2001. She was employed for several years at Paragon Electric Company in Two Rivers, and also worked for Cool City Cleaners. Nancy was a member of the Ladies of Holy Redeemer for many years, and later the Ladies of St. Peter the Fisherman Parish; she volunteered many hours at the Hamilton Memorial Home; and enjoyed baking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens, sewing, and embroidery work.

She is survived by her five children: Pat (Craig) Hruby, Newton, Peggy Steffens, DePere, Jim (Sue) Steffens, Lacey, WA, Ann (Steve) Sayeski, Two Rivers, and Rose Reed of Manitowoc & special friend, Dan Waskow; one step daughter, Sedonie (Orville) Zietler, Luxemburg; thirteen grandchildren: Teresa (Dan) Miller, Tammy Menza, Joie (Steve) Thielbar, Don Steffens, Brian (Barb) Hruby, Eric (Heather) Hruby, Stacy (Kevin) Box, Wendy (Brian) Penquite, Chris (Mary) Sayeski, Shawn (Jessica) Sayeski, Kim Reed, Katie (John) Lor, Andrew (Kimberly) Reed; and eighteen great grandchildren; special friend of the family, Phil Reed of Lakewood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Steffens; two step-sons; one brother, and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3218 Tannery Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Tom Reynebeau, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Wednesday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. There will be no Tuesday evening visitation.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter the Fisherman - Bell Tower Fund.
