Liane Hartley, 86, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Park View Care Center in Buffalo, MN.

Liane Elhard was born August 16, 1931 in Logan County, ND, the daughter of William and Minnie (Podoll) Elhard. In 1938 her family moved southwest of the Jud area. Liane graduated from Jud Public High School in 1949. She went on to obtain her teaching certificate from Valley City State College. She taught at a country school northeast of Jud during the 1951-52 school years.

Liane and Harold Hartley were married November 24, 1950 in Jamestown, ND. They made their home on a farm southeast of Jud until 1980 when they took to the road in their RV and ventured through the western and southwestern part of the United States, returning to make their home in Jamestown in 1982. Liane was a hard worker and throughout her career worked as a cook at the Jud School, the Edgeley Café and volunteered at the Jud Café. After moving to Jamestown she worked for a time at Hi-Acres Nursing Home for 10 years. Following the death of her husband January 1, 1996, she continued to live in Jamestown. On October 23, 2017 she entered the Park View Care Center at Buffalo, MN.

Liane was a member of First Congregational Church - United Church of Christ in Jamestown and was active in the church until mobility limited her activities. She was also active with the Senior Citizens group, volunteered for various organizations and loved to play weekly bingo. Liane also loved Country Western and Gospel music and from a very young age could always be heard humming. She always welcomed visits from her children and grandchildren.

Liane is survived by her daughter, Dorry Nordstrom, St. Michaels, MN; her 3 sons, Dale Hartley, Anderson, IN; Dan (Sharon) Hartley, West Fargo, ND; Dewey (Trudy) Hartley, Webster, WI; a daughter-in-law, Sue Hartley, Mandan, ND; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Oral Elhard, Bonita Springs, FL, and Dennis (Mary) Elhard, Bismarck, ND; 1 sister, Kathy Sandvick, Jamestown, ND; and many nieces and nephews.-

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Dean and 1 sister, June.
