Cimarron - RaeVella (Giddens) Friesen, 79, died March 22, 2018 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born on September 7, 1938 in Macomb, Oklahoma the daughter of Willard Ray and Vella Lucille (Johnson) Pope.

RaeVella spent her childhood in central Oklahoma. She graduated from Macomb High School at the age of 14 and was the class salutatorian. RaeVella went on to further her education at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. On September 1, 1956, she married George Giddens in Macomb. He preceded her in death. RaeVella worked as a substitute teacher and church secretary but her most important job was being a stay at home mom. After her children were older, she went to work in the Gray County Register of Deeds. RaeVella later married Ben Friesen. He survives. RaeVella was an avid reader, reading most all of the books in the Cimarron Library. She also loved to cook.

RaeVella was a member of the Cimarron United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

RaeVella is survived by her husband Ben Friesen of Hutchinson; four children, Dave Giddens and wife Elizabeth of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Steve Giddens and wife Karen of Topeka, Deanna Manke and husband Brian of Wildwood, Missouri, and Tracy Giddens and wife Sherry of Wichita; one sister, Carole Kirkpatrick and husband Charles of Pasadena, Texas; one brother, Jim Pope of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her first husband George Giddens and two brothers, Dale and Larry Pope.

Funeral service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Wednesday March 28, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery. There will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice House of Reno County in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel – 1901 Sixth Ave – Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
