Edward Schmitt Dies at Bruce Crossing

Messages from Bruce Crossing, Mich., brings news of the death in that village of Edward Schmitt, a former well known Gibson youth who has been a resident of Bruce Crossing for two or three years past. The death of Mr. Schmitt was due to consumption which developed danger only a few days ago.

Decedent was son of Michael Schmitt, who for years was employed as a foreman for the Two Rivers Manufacturing Co., and had more recently engaged in the hotel business at Bruce Crossing.

Mr. Schmitt was married and is survived by a widow and two children, besides his parents.

The body will probably be brought here for burial at Cooperstown.

Mr. Edward Schmitt, aged 28 years, the only surviving child born to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Schmitt, died at Bruce's Crossing, Northern Michigan, Monday, May 11 and was buried from the Catholic Church at Cooperstown this county, last Saturday.

He was born and reared in this county and for many years the family home was in Gibson near the church yard in which his remains were so sorrowfully laid to rest Saturday.

Besides his disconsolate parents, he leaves a wife but no children. Several of deceased relatives who reside in the city attended the funeral. Mr. Michael Schmitt, is a brother of the late John Schmitt of this city and he and his wife are now guests of the late brother's family. They have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends. The young man was sick nearly two years and about a year ago spent several months in Arizona, hoping to regain his health. His death was due to consumption.
