The death from pneumonia, of Walter Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bailey of Lexington, occurred at the Governor's Island [Manhattan, NY] barracks on Friday of last week [31 Jan]. He entered the service last summer and but a short time before his death was engaged in guard duty on the Island. Mr. Bailey was an energetic young man and will be much missed by his many acquaintances and friends in this vicinity.
The funeral was held from Jewett Heights Presbyterian Church, and was largely attended. Boys who are home from camp acted as bearers, and a firing squad from the Catskill Home Guard paid the last military honors.
Mountain Lodge, No. 520, F. & A. M. of which the deceased was a member, attended in a body, and a quartette from the Lodge sang. The funeral service at the church was conducted by Rev. J. Markarian and his was given a Masonic burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery [k/n/a Ashland] on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1919. He was about 25 years. of age.
