WILLIAM CORBETT
(1869 - 1931)

CITY EMPLOYE HIT BY TRUCK, SATURDAY; DIES
William Corbett Fatally Injured In Chestnut Ave. Accident

A desire to see his great nephew dressed in a new suit which he had bought for him and which did not fit caused the death on Saturday evening at 6:30 o'clock of William Corbett, 62, who made his home with his sister, Mrs. James Marinan, 521 S. Ashland-Ave.

Mr. Corbett had bought the suit for Gerald Haney, 15 months old, and when he brought it home at supper time found that it was not the right size. He started back to the store to exchange it and as he crossed S. Chestnut-Ave. at School Place, going east, he was struck by a truck driven south on Chestnut-Ave. by George Leanna, 154 N. Chestnut-Ave. It is said that he called out to the driver as he saw the machine bearing down upon him, but the driver did not hear. His body was thrown against the east curb. He was rushed to the Bellin Memorial hospital, but died shortly after arrival there.

Coroner Frank J. Hodek is investigating the accident and announced this morning that there would be an inquest, the date to be decided when he obtains further information.

Mr. Corbett, who was employed by the city as a street sweeper, is survived by one sister with whom he lived, and one brother, James Corbett of Missoula, Mont.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. from St. Patrick's church with burial at Cooperstown.

St. Elizabeth's court, W.C.O.F., will meet at the home this evening at 7:30 to recite the rosary.
