J. Douglas Ayers, Ex-Councilman, Area Builder, Dies

J. Douglas Ayers, 63, of 51st St., Vienna, died Sunday morning at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was president of the Ayers Construction Co., and a home builder in the area for more than 30 years. He was a former member of the Parkersburg City Council, and had served in the House of Delegates in the West Virginia Legislature. He was a past president of the Home Builders Association, a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church, and active in community affairs.

He was born in Parkersburg the son of the late John Douglas Sr., and Edna Mae Reighter Ayers.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Pennybacker Ayers; two sons, Steven Ayers and Richard Ayers, both of Parkersburg; one daughter, Penny Moellendick of Parkersburg; one brother, Robert R. Ayers of Vienna; one sister, Mrs. Betty Swearingen of Lancaster, Pa., and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard W. Ayers, last March.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Vaughan Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown.
