Louis J. Harvey, 88, of Dewey, died Sunday in Tulsa. Louis, the son of Leonard C. and Pearlie Ann (Byrd) Harvey, was born on Sept. 6, 1929, in Millerton, OK, but spent his school years in Durant OK.
Louis once took up the opportunity to go on a blind date in Tulsa with Imogene Dillard, and after just three short months of seeing each other they were united in marriage. They made their home in Tulsa and had four children. In 1967 the family moved to Bartlesville where Louis partnered with Imogene’s brother in a carpentry business. Louis soon learned that carpentry was a seasonal career, and with four small children at home he had to make a career change. Louis began working for Jane Phillips Hospital where he retired in 1992 after 24 years of faithful service.
Louis and Imogene loved to spend time with their family, enjoying camping with their children, and later their grandchildren. Louis also enjoyed traveling, taking many memorable trips including expeditions to Alaska, northeastern states, and Mexico. Louis did everything with a full heart. He loved framing puzzles and enjoyed quilting. Louis made and donated over 300 lap quilts. He was a children’s advocate, oftentimes donating his quilts to the Boys and Girls Club so that no matter what situation a child was in, they would always have something that was theirs. His loving heart will truly be missed by all.
Louis is survived by his son David Harvey and Ruby of Ochelata; two daughters Vicki Kerr and Ed of Bartlesville, Terri Hinderman and Jerry of Weatherford, Texas; eight grandchildren Kimberly Grahm, Joshua Harvey, Ryan Harvey, Jason Canady, Travis Canady, Jamie Meisenheimer, Robyn Riley, Bryan Bagby; and a host of great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by three brothers James Joplin, Leonard Harvey, Dewey Harvey; three sisters Ruby Walker, Gertrude Davison, Lottie Landers; one daughter Karen Harvey Bagby; and his beloved wife of 64 years Imogene Harvey.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the Town and Country Christian Church with Louis’s grandson, Jason Canady officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
