Sally Edna was known to her family as "Sally Edna". The double names were generally used to separate generations who bore the same name. Her mother was also given the name Sally Edna, but was known all her life as Edna. Sally's father was superintendent of Jackson Training School in Concord, NC, an institution for delinquent boys. She and her brother John grew up in a strict but loving family. Sally's grandfather was a Methodist minister and they attended church every Sunday, even when her father Frank was called away for a problem boy.
Sally Edna chose the teaching profession, a common calling among her cousins and in fact, among her ancestors. She married educator Rob Bost and was mother to two children. Sally and Rob were married in the little church near Jackson Training school where she had gone to church and where later her parents' funerals were held. The Bosts made their home in Winston-Salem.
