When her father, Robert Smith Hodgen died on 24 August 1877 she inherited as her share of his estate 64 acres of land which included the Hodgen homestead. Mary Hodgen Kissick settled on 64 acres farm in Vincennes Twp., Knox Co. Indiana where her husband, Benjamin Franklin Kissick engaged in farming.

During the Civil War he served as a Private in Company “H” 4th Regiment of Kentucky Mounted Infantry. He served until 17 August 1865 when he was discharged in Macon, Georgia from the Union Army

During the union of their marriage they had nine (9) children. She died of Bronchial Pneumonia & Bronchial Asthma. She was the daughter of Robert Smith Hodgen and Angeline Ballow

1. Charles Thurston Kissick born on 15 October 1870, Vincennes Twp., Knox Co., Indiana and died on 20 January, 1947 at Wayne County Memorial Hospital. He is buried at Oak View Cemetery, Royal Oak, Michigan. He was a Sgt. in Company "A", First Infantry, U. S. Signal Corps; Spanish-American War and has a government marker on his grave.

2. Margaret "Maggie" Kissick born on 8 February 1874, Vincennes, Twp., Knox Co., Ohio. She died on 21 June 1881 and is buried Upper Indiana Presbyterian Church cemetery.

3. Robert E. Kissick born on 12 July 1875, Vincennes Twp., Knox Co., Indiana. He died on 20 April 1962, Vincennes, Knox Co. Indiana. He is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery.

4. Jennifer "Jennie" Kissick born 2 April 1877, Vincennes Twp., Knox Co., Indiana died on l0 May 1949 in Vincennes, Indiana and is buried in Upper Indiana Presbyterian Church cemetery.She was married to William Schwenk
