However, a post-mortem examination revealed she had undergone an abortion and suffered a punctured uterus, and died from the resulting infection. The physician Dr. Charles O'Donnell was initially charged in connection with her death, but the charge was dismissed for insufficient testimony.
Addie Hand was interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in the San Francisco Section, tier 2, lot 20 (later renumbered to tier 6, lot 15). Her remains were reinterred at Greenlawn during the mass relocation of remains from Odd Fellows in the 1930s.∼Crime victim. Died from an abortion perpetrated by Dr. C. C. O'Donnell.
