The Rev. Armand Engel, Jefferson, former pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Maribel, passed away Tuesday afternoon.
The funeral services will be held in Jefferson. The committal service will be at 4 pm Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Maribel. Friends may call at St. John's Church at 3:30 pm.

Maribel Pastor Retires
The Reverend Armin Engel, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Maribel, will preach his farewell and retirement service on Sunday morning, August 17. He had been the pastor of the Maribel congregation for the past 18 years and is retiring after 48 years of active ministry. He has never missed a Sunday service due to illness.
His future plans are to reside in Jefferson, Wis., and he will help out by preaching at area churches. Pastor Engel was born February 14, 1905 near Fairfax, Minn., the son of the late Rev. Julius and Minna Franz Engel. He was a graduate of Northwestern College, Watertown and Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Ill. He was ordained into the Lutheran ministry in 1933 in Pardeeville by his brother, the late Rev. Alfons Engel.
Pastor Engel's parishes included Bark River, Michigan (1933 – 1937), Lena, (1937 – 1941), town of Seneca, Berlin and Red Granite joint parishes (1941- 1944), three congregations at Larsen, Readfield and New London (1944 – 1959), Kendall and Forest Ridge (1960 – 1962) and has served the Maribel congregation since 1962.
Pastor Engel was married in 1933 to the former Cordula Shiefer. Mrs. Engel died in 1977. They had four children, Eugene, who died in 1950, Mrs. Lloyd (Nathalie) Tiege, whose husband is principal of Koshkoning Lutheran School, Jonathan, a teacher at Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills and Rev. Michael, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, Milwaukee. He also has six grandchildren.
Following the Sunday service, Pastor Engel will be honored at a pot luck dinner for his relatives, friends and the members of the congregation.
