Obituary:

With his beloved wife by his side, Henry Smith Tanner, 71, of Lehi, Utah, passed away on February 24th. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 13, 1944, to Henry Malan Tanner and Sarah Ellen Smith. He married his eternal companion, Dely del Carmen Zayas on August 4, 1990 in the Los Angeles LDS temple.

“Smitty” was a gifted dentist, loved by his patients of 30-plus years in California. He received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and his DDS from University of Southern California (Go Trojans!). After retirement from dentistry he taught science for seven years in the Granite School District. He was a stranger to no one, and a friend to all. Smitty had a sunshine personality and was happiest when he was spending time with his family. “Grampa” loved entertaining his grandchildren with his extensive train collection. He enjoyed the outdoors as an avid fisherman, camper, and marksman. “Dad” was an amazing story teller and everyone enjoyed his quick wit and humor. “Hermano Tanner” served a full time mission in Argentina from 1964-1966 and recently returned from his second mission where he served with his sweet wife in Cordoba, Argentina. “Elder and Sister Tanner” also served as ordinance workers at the Los Angeles Temple and as missionaries at Temple Square.

He is survived by his wife, Dely, his (step)mother, Joann Tanner, his sisters, Linda (Steve) Beach, Marie (Randy) Boyer, Sally (Welby) Scott, and his children Kristen (Merrill) Barnes, Ryan Tanner, Jonathan Tanner, Deborah (Edward) Allison, Todd (Elizabeth) Jones, Cristina (Ian) Alexander, Nathan Jones, and Sarah (Chad) Watkins; and 19 grandchildren.

Viewings will be held on Friday, February 26th , from 6:00-8:00pm and Saturday, February 27th , from 10:30-11:30am. The funeral will be on Saturday at 12:00pm. All services will be held at the LDS church located at 1631 E 900 N, Lehi. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.

God be with you till we meet again. Para siempre Dios esté con vos.
