Professional Football Player. For fifteen seasons (1960 to 1974), he played at the tackle and guard positions in the National Football League with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. Born Grady Charles Alderman, his initial impact on the football field was felt during his years at Madison High School in Michigan and later his collegiate years at Detroit Mercy. Selected by the Detroit Lions during the 10th round of the 1960 NFL Draft, he would be chosen by the Vikings during the Expansion Draft of 1961 and go on to total 204 career regular season games. He had the distinction as being a member of the Minnesota Vikings' roster during their inaugural season of 1961. During the 1960s, Alderman achieved Pro-Bowl honors six-times and All-Pro status once. He experienced an NFL Championship with Minnesota in 1969, which culminated with an appearance in the Super Bowl (1970). Alderman's veteran leadership on the Vikings' offense line during the 1970s propelled Minnesota to two more Super Bowl appearances (1974 and 1975). After retiring as a player, he served as a color analyst on Vikings' radio broadcasts. He later served as general manager with the Denver Broncos (1981 to 1982). He is on the Minnesota Vikings' 50 Greatest Players list.
