Barbara Abernethy, 76, of St. Thomas, died July 22, 2014, peacefully with family by her side. Mrs. Abernethy was born January 15, 1938, in Liverpool England. Mrs. Abernethy and her beloved husband of 51 years, Thomas Abernethy, Sr., retired and settled in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. She was an avid volunteer for the "Meals on Wheels" program of Chambersburg. Mrs. Abernethy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Daisy Taylor; husband, Thomas Abernethy, Sr.; and grandson, Kyle Abernethy. Mrs. Abernethy is survived by her brother, Thomas Taylor; sister, Irene Jamieson; brother-in-law, Joseph Jamieson; three children, Thomas Abernethy, Jr., Marina Abernethy, and Charles Abernethy; daughter-in-law, Brenda Abernethy; four grandchildren, Thomas Abernethy, III, Charles Abernethy, Jr., Taylor Kauffman, and Kayla Abernethy; and great-grandchild, Madison Kauffman. Mrs. Abernethy will be laid to rest with her husband, Thomas Abernethy, Sr. at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Interment services will be performed by the Reverend John Winckler. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Meals on Wheels program, 43 W. Washington St., Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17201.
