Dorothy Crawford Simmons, age 89, of Knoxville, TN, formerly from Beckley, WV, passed away on April 7, 2018 after a brief illness.
Dorothy was born August 15, 1928, in Wyoming County, WV, the daughter of the late Rev. Henry Hayes Bailey (1907-1979) and Mabel Massey-Bailey (1908-1975). She was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Lewis Crawford (1926-1992) whom she married on June 5, 1947 in Beckley, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1947, Page 76, Application Date: June 2, 1947), and Carl Simmons (Deceased); sister, Nina Bailey-Lugar (Deceased); and brothers Clyde Bailey (Deceased) and Juddy Bailey (Deceased).
Dorothy was formerly employed by Beckley Manufacturing and retired from Kroger Company. She enjoyed going to church, embroidery, working puzzles and talking with friends and family. She especially enjoyed hearing her great-grandchildren play the piano.
Dorothy loved Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, and believed wholeheartedly in the power of prayer. Dorothy was blessed with a glorious gift of gab and knew no strangers, from people she met in a store to the nursing staff at Shannondale Health Care Center. Everyone felt blessed to be in her presence by the warmth and love that radiated from her heart.
Dorothy is survived by daughters, Brenda Crawford-Szczudlo of Knoxville, TN, and Betty Crawford-Bonifacio & husband Sam Bonifacio of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Kimberly Stigall & husband Skip Stigall and Keith Ross of Knoxville, TN, Sue Ann Bonifacio of Jacksonville, FL, Jennifer Simms & husband Jon Simms of Asheville, NC; great-grandchildren, Megan Stigall, Nicholas Stigall, Sebastian Simms and Maple Simms; beloved sister and best friend, Eunice Bailey-Quantz & husband Vernon Quantz of Covington, VA; brother, Ray Bailey of Minnesota; sister-in-law, Wanda Bailey of Bolivar, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral service following. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.
