Amanda entered this life on September 29, 1961 in Springfield, Missouri the only child born to Ted and Janet (Griffith) Garrett. She was a lifelong area resident of the Joplin area. On April 29, 1989 in Joplin, Missouri she was united in marriage to Jeffrey G. Sommer and to this union a son and daughter were born. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, Missouri and had been employed for several years at Abbey Title Company also located in Joplin. She enjoyed music, drawing, being a mother, valued friend, and wife.
Amanda is survived by her husband of twenty-three years, Jeff Sommer of the home; a son, Joshua Sommer serving in the USMC in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii and wife, Juanita; one daughter, Stephanie Sommer of the home; a grandson, Jacob Sommer; her parents, Janet Garrett of Joplin, Missouri and Ted Garrett of El Reno, Oklahoma; as well as a host of other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Anissa Hassan and staff at the Freeman Cancer Institute for their expert care and compassion, and also Avalon Hospice for their help in Mandy's last days.
Memorial services for Mrs. Sommer are 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, Missouri with Rev. Gregory Mech officiating.
